George Washington School, Menemsha Lane

Old George Washington School, Menemsha Lane, 1911. The George Washington School District was originally known as the Springer District, and also as School District No. 1. The original portion of this two-room schoolhouse - that with the cupola - was built in 1885. Brick additions to the pictured structure were added in the 1960s. The old wooden structure burned in 1970.
New The brick addition to the old wooden schoolhouse in 1962 has itself been expanded and updated. Today the George Washington School is part of the Averill Park School system, and serves youth grades K through 5.
