District No. 2 School, Brunswick Road, Eagle Mills, also known as the Garfield School, 1891.This stick style two-room school was erected in 1881, and became known as the Garfield School in tribute to President James Garfield who often visited the Eagle Mills hamlet while attending Williams College. The school opened shortly after Garfield's death. |

Today the Garfield School is owned by the Town of Brunswick, and serves as the headquarters of the Brunswick Historical Society and the home of the Brunswick Community Library. Considered an outstanding example of a well-preserved two-room school, the Garfield School has been named to the National Register of Historic Places, and has received the recognition of the New York State Preservation League. |
