Junction of Route 7, Hoosick Road, and Route 278, Brick Church Road

Old Junction of Route 7, Hoosick Road, and Route 278, Brick Church Road, c. 1900. To the right is the Gilead Lutheran Church, constructed in 1865. Route 7, also known as the Hoosick Road, was the earliest public highway to traverse Rensselaer County, a fact that encouraged the development of Brunswick's commercial corridor along this highway. At the time of this photograph, Route 7 was known as the Stone Road. The Gilead congregation built its first church east of this site, in Haynersville, about 1742. The Gilead Church was the first religious order established in that part of Rensselaerwyck that would become Rensselaer County in 1791.
New One doesn't usually notice the intrusion of electrical and telephone lines and trees until shooting a photograph!
