The restored Veterans Memorial Park will include a replica of this important WWI Veterans Memorial
Members of the Brunswick Bicentennial Committee decided that a fitting project for the Town to commemorate its 200th anniversary would be the renovation and upgrading of the Veterans Memorial Park located on Route 2 in Eagle Mills. Coincidentally, the State of New York has decided that the Route 2 bridge over the Poestenkill Creek in Eagle Mills would have to be replaced because of its deteriorated condition. A plaque honoring the veterans of World War I was attached to a monument located at this bridge and the State agreed to reconstruct the monument in the present Veterans Memorial Park.
The monument in its new home in Veterans Memorial Park
The state engineer in charge of the project agreed to work with members of the Bicentennial Committee to propose a complete renovation of the existing park, including the relocated monument and plaque and that renovation has been included as a betterment to the bridge contract. The bridge and the park were completed in 2007, the year the town celebrated its Bicentennial.
The current Veterans Memorial Park, shown above, will undergo major renovations including the installation of etched paver bricks.
As a part of the renovation of the park, there are two areas where etched bricks will be located. One area is at the base of the World War I monument and the other is the area around the other three monuments (World War II, Korean and Vietnam Wars). These bricks can be engraved with the names of veterans, non-veterans, residents and families of Brunswick, businesses and other organizations interested in being a part of Brunswick history. A brick honoring a veteran may include years of service, unit, rank, etc.
A 4"x8" brick can accommodate up to 3 lines of engraving and a 8"x8" brick can accommodate up to 6 lines. These courtyards will honor those you love and the brave members of our military while helping to beautify a town landmark.
To order a brick, just fill out an order form (PDF, 7K) indicating the engraving you desire and mail the completed form with payment to:
